Mother’s Day woes

Here is a summed up story of my experience on Mother’s Day 2020. I worked for a chain cake shop and my co workers and I worked over 12hrs on the Saturday before and the Sunday of Mother’s Day. Our online system failed us so we really had no idea how many orders we had and kept printing the same orders. If I had to guess over 400 orders. It was expected of me and 2 other managers with 4 other employees (brand new) to handle this crowd. Saturday was okay but Sunday when we opened we had a line outside of over 200 people all for the same pick up time. We were screaming orders outside for people to just come up and claim. Our owner was at his other location helping them and not us but we had less staff. It got to a point if we couldn’t…

It got to a point if we couldn’t find the order the froster had to quickly frost and pass it off to me doing the paper decorations and wrapping it in cello.

It was a horrible day, I didn’t know that many people ordered cakes for Mother’s Day. Our owner had no sympathy he was money hungry. To top it off our paycheck 2 weeks later, (which was a massive pay check) he told the regular employees and us managers we won’t be receiving the Covid bonuses he promised(this money coming from I believe the government when they were offering money to businesses that stayed open something like that) because us managers worked too much so he had to give the money to us in our regular pay checks ???? He made over 30k from our store and over 50k at the other one.

Needless to say we all quit by June and he had to rehire a whole new staff. But we all had a bonding moment that night dancing in the rain when we finally closed. That also started our group chat called “the quitters pact”.
