To make a long story short, I moved to a tiny town for work and dragged my husband with me. We’ve been here around a month and sadly as POC in a small town, we’re not finding people to be very friendly to us, so safe to say that we are very co-dependent for the time being (until we return to the city we’re from). Work overestimated how busy the location will be and lets just say I have 2 days out of 5 that I kind of have nothing to do, so I just help out the newbies in another department etc.
Big boss today asked me if I can work 2 days a week in a city 4 hour drive away (or maybe they’ll fly me, not sure). I was surprised after all the hassle I went through to move so I said no, my husband is here, I won’t leave him. If I do that I’ll be gone 1/3 of the week and hubby works from home. He’ll be so lonely. They asked again, I said no.
They came back again and said well can you cover for a town 30-45 mins away? I said it’s an hour drive one-way with all the construction (I’ve covered one day there before). They said oh well thats not too bad!
Are you KIDDING ME, gas prices are insane atm. And will i be paid for the 2 hrs I’ll be driving?
Initially they said no, and to think it over and let them know as this will only be temporary until things pick up. I’ve thought about it and now I think I’ll tell them they need to rent me a car, pay the gas, AND pay for my driving time.
Honestly why should I pay out of my own pocket over the mistake of some overpaid idiot in head office that thought it would be a good idea to relocate a specialist for a location that’s not busy at all? Why should I have to be away from my husband at all?
Best of all, the big boss said they would like me to cover in the far area as that is where they live and it would make it easier for them to assess me (via observation) LMAOOOO. Guaranteed I’m paid no where near what they are and they want me to go to them!!
