Must provide current supervisor’s contact information for job application

I've been in the process of looking for a new job for ~1 month. I currently work in an outpatient therapy setting about 40 minutes away from home and I'm essentially looking for anything new that is no more than 25 minutes away. One job application I'm looking at which is a government job requires that I give my current supervisor for the application–however my current work does not know I'm looking for something new. How do I even go about applying for this job without making things awkward at work?
