My 64 year old mother was just informed that she’ll be expected to work unpaid OT for the fall months

My mother is retired and works a part time job at a “scenic railroad” just to occupy her time. We live in a very touristy area of New England and fall is their busiest season. They've increased her hours to the point that she now works 10 hour days 5 days a week for a measly $12 an hour. They informed her yesterday that she'll be expected to work 7 days a week but won't be receiving time and a half pay because it's a seasonal business and are exempt from OT laws. Is this legal? Just a few other things about this terrible company; an older gentleman who has worked there for 15 years has MS and often has to choose between eating and paying his mortgage. He just got a pay raise to $111 an hour. My mother is helping him with the fuel assistance paperwork. There is…

There is an extreme housing shortage in the area, the railroad won't pay above $12 an hour, but if you're homeless they'll allow you to sleep in one of the rail cars in the yard that isn't in service.
