My boomer dad thinks I can easily climb from my job as a school custodian to a school librarian or secretary.

I got a message from him that said, “I am happy about your new job. I see this as a good opportunity for you. You are “in the school system” now. You don't have to stay a custodian, although there's nothing wrong with that. But maybe you would like to work in one of the library or secretary jobs. Get settled and take an online class. Mainly, show up every day and do the best job you can!” (Sorry, I didn't post the actual screenshot of his message so as not to violate the no screenshot rule.) His message reeks of, “just march in there and give the CEO a firm handshake and demand an interview.” Also when he says, “although there's nothing wrong with that,” believe me, he thinks there's something wrong with being a custodian.
