My Boss and his “workethic”

I work in an analytical Lab. Our workload is heavily dependant on the size and number of “orders” we get from our customers. So sometimes, it is a stressful hell of doing 10 things at once and doing lots of overtime. Sometimes its sailing so smooth that you might bore yourself to death. Or anything inbetween. During Summertime, workload is relatively low, especially this week. Everyday the whole lab staff, wich is mostly hard working people, is sitting around extremely bored half of day because, well, we are getting payd by the hour after all. My boss is also the owner of this “Family Business”. I see him like 4 times a year. I've spoken to him maybe twice in my 3,5 years in his company. In short, he couldn't care less about his employees.

Today, he suddenly barges into the lab, and sees that our intern is sitting around bored with his eyes closed. He immediatly begins to taunt him for sleeping at the workplace and then progreeds to scold my college, telling her that she needs to find something to do for him and that he can't be slacking around. Except: there is nothing to do!

They started shoving some things around until he left, but, of course, he will be sitting around the next 4 hours again because he has to be here and there is nothing to do. And hell, no one could blame him if he'd really fall asleep 🙂
