I work at an LGBTQ+ homeles shelter. My backround is as a teacher with a sociology degree. I took this job out of necessity but ended up loving all the people there. For months I built a rapport with my guests and we bonded with me being almost a mother to them. Unfortunately as much as we love each other, I always had problems with my boss. He is tone deaf and self absorbed and drove the first 6 original staff members to quit because of his attitide. I was the only one left. I went above and beyond for my guests and they knew it and reciprocated in kind. I finally had enough of Ty, my boss because he finally recognized me by offering me what I thought was a raise and a promotion. I found out later that the “raise” was just to even out my pay with the new hires. The promotion never happened. So… at a meeting last week, he started criticising my work in front of everyone I worked with. I lost it and told him how I really felt and gave my 2 weeks. Today was supposed to be my last day and he told me not to bother coming in. He did this because he wrongly thought that my absence would only affect me and my paycheck. In the end he hurt all the guests that loved me and wanted to give me a proper goodbye and send off. We all lost out because of this jerk.
How can I legally retaliate?
