My boss gives us restrictions and stipulations regarding our employee meals

I work at a chick-fil-a and we're allotted $10 for our employee meals each day. Sounds simple enough, right? Well wrong! Because there's certain restrictions regarding employee meals that we have to abide by: We're not allowed to get a large fry. Every sandwich can have a large fry added on without going over $10, but we're not allowed to be rung up as such. When it comes to salads, we have to get everything on the salad. We're not allowed to take anything off the salad that we don't want. We're only allowed one side to be rung up. Any additional side we want has to be rung up separately. I work at a chick-fil-a and we're allotted $10 for our employee meals each day. Sounds simple enough, right? Well wrong! Because there's certain restrictions regarding employee meals that we have to abide by:

  • We're not allowed to get a large fry. Every sandwich can have a large fry added on without going over $10, but we're not allowed to be rung up as such.
  • When it comes to salads, we have to get everything on the salad. We're not allowed to take anything off the salad that we don't want.
  • We're only allowed one side to be rung up. Any additional side we want has to be rung up separately. (even if it's not at $10 yet)
  • We have to be rung up for a fountain drink, which adds on $2.09. This applies even to employees that only drink water. (the water is free) This fact alone makes certain menu items go over $10.

I'm one of the employees that drinks only water and I primarily eat salads because I'm trying to eat healthier. When I informed my boss of this she responded with “it would be hard to police the rule that employees who drink water can't get fountain drinks.” So in order for me to buy a salad now, I have to spend money for a drink that I don't even get. She also proceeded to go on a rant that she spends between $20k-$30k on employee meals every month.

Am I overreacting when I say that I feel that the restrictions and stipulations are a bit too much or is this fairly reasonable?
