Next month I am dog sitting for a week. A nice break from work with a doggo. Very excited about it. However, my boss is refusing it. I work in IT and I am the IT lead for two sites (I am based there & switch between the two on certain days each week). One of my colleagues is also based at these two sites. He is off on the Thursday & Friday but I need the whole week off.
This isn't an issue for other sites, they can have no IT presence and the other team members will cover them remotely. If needed, travel to the site or have someone at the said site help us out. Because it is me, it is an issue. He doesn't like me because I do not kiss his arse. I am however good at my job & it pisses him off. When I point out other people have time off with nobody else at the site he tries telling me “Oh but it's different over there”.
So I think I am going to pull a sicky for that week. I have an ace up my sleeve because my psychiatrist has written to my GP saying I can be signed off for work if needed, due to my mental illnesses. (I have 4 diagnosed). So I may use that & get a couple of weeks off work with full pay.
Oh and to paint you a picture of what the company which I work for is like, I was stabbed in the stomach 3 or so years ago. Went to hospital etc and my current work would only allow me to have just over 2 weeks off. After that, they wouldn't give me full pay & I couldn't go without it. So I was hobbling around work for weeks after being stitched back together. My boss tried forcing me to travel between sites, too. The only reason I didn't was that I kicked off big time.
