I won't disclose where I work, but it's a high end establishment. It's difficult to get to via bus and I have no vehicle, and the only other option is a £20 taxi, so I live on site at work during the days I'm working.
So far, I haven't been told any of my hours more than 12 hours in advance, for example last night I was told to come in today for “breakfast”, and when I asked tor clarification was told both 7am and 10am, then finally 8am, which I thought would be okay as I was told another coworker would be doing the shift with me. As I was told with such short notice, I had to get a taxi, which didn't show up on time and I got in for about 8:15. It turned out, I was working the entire morning shift alone, then my boss showed up to bitch at me for not being in for 7:30, despite him not telling me when I should be in. Another coworker then showed up, so I asked him what time I'm working until today, as nobody had bothered telling me, and what time I need to be in tomorrow. He informed me I'm expected to come in at 7:30am every day this week and then work a 10 hour shift. This was news to me, and he seemed shocked that nobody had told me this.
I don't even know what my pay is meant to be, and my boss expects me to be free and on call 24/7 to come in at a moments notice and work for him. I'm exhausted from having to share a bedroom with my coworker, I had a day and a half off and was so tired I slept from 4pm-11pm, then 12am-12pm.
It's absolutely ridiculous, he's refusing to set a rota, yet I'm being told off for coming in a half hour late for a shift that I wasn't actually told about. I want to quit, but I desperately desperately need the money.
