My boss is wondering why people keep quitting…

A few weeks ago, started a high paying job for a fortune 500 co’. The pay was nuts compared to what I thought I could get, but the job involves essentially being a corporate spreadsheet monkey and is soul sucking boring (and there is very little OJT despite ridiculously complicated tasks, only passive aggressive scolding once mistakes are made) When I started, someone quit that day. Someone quit last week, too. Apparently. they laid off 25% of the team a year ago, and now only 5/20 of the team has been there longer than a year. The main boss keeps talking about how he’s proud to be an asshole and he keeps talking shit to everyone (including me). When I started, someone quit that day. Someone quit last week, too. Apparently. they laid off 25% of the team a year ago, and now only 5/20 of the team has been there longer than a year.

The main boss keeps talking about how he’s proud to be an asshole and he keeps talking shit to everyone (including me). His 2 underbosses are also twats and openly gossip about how great it feels to fire people. They are the only team at this company that wants to work 5 days a week in person, too, despite literally none of their subordinates sharing that desire.

How would you quit? Thinking of just walking out midday and ghosting them after leaving a note to send me my final check in the mail. How tf are some leaders so weak that they KNOW they are weak, KNOW they are causing people to quit, but do not have any desire to change? Is this common in fortune 500 companies or is this company a one off?
