This was last year, at the height of the pandemic. I just graduated. Being a international student here in the US, we only get one year of job authorization after graduation. You basically have to beg employers to sponsor you and hope to god/universe / satan/ whatever poppycock you are into that they will hire you even though you can technically work for one year and only able to continue if they sponsor you.
The dept i joined had 4 people, the manager, senior personnel, one specialists and one staff. I joined as a staff. 1 month in and the manager, senior and specialist left the company because they wanted to work from home and remotely or were under too much pressure. Anyway after everyone left, me the newbie and the other recent hire staff were tackling all the responsibilities.
The ceo asks me to come in his room and basically tells me that i need to put in more time in weekdays, leave later and work on weekends without any overtime pay. He said” why do you need to hangout with friends every weekend? This is the age to work and build yourself ” and all I said was” I didn't know i was expected to work weekends”. He gets furious and asks me to leave the room because had had “better things to do than talk to me”
I got upset because of this rude behavior and gave him my resignation. He looked at it for couple of seconds and shouted ” you are fucking bullshitter! Nobody wants immigrants in this country, I gave you a job when nobody else would. You should be grateful! And do everything to keep it! You will never achieve anything in life and won't get far with this attitude ” lol
I kept my calm and and told him he was screaming. He said okay put in your two weeks. I smiled and said you just cursed at me and shouted at me, belittled me for being a immigrant and you want to give you two weeks. No thanks, i am leaving now.
Here's the kicker! He immigrated to this country 20 years ago and is from a similar geographic background!
