My boss referred to a coworker’s outburst as idiotic

I’ve been with a place for a year now. The boss is terrible, typically narcissist with a side of Napoleon complex. We’ve been a m-f 9 to 5 shop with after hours support but recently we’re told we now have to start working rotating schedules, basically everyone has to work weekends and evenings. This came after a discussion where everyone on the team told him they could not work weekends due to family life. In the meeting one of my coworkers was extremely upset, while I don’t agree with his actions and words he was not being professional. It was pretty clear he was very upset and becoming emotional to the point he was using vulgar language, being too direct, a bit over dramatic (such as child care costing $1000 a weekend) and ended up walking out of the meeting. Am I wrong in feeling like the bosses comment was uncalled for and unprofessional? I saw it as demeaning and belittling the employee.
