This was so utterly infuriating as I even gave them extra notice so they wouldn't be stuck. I give them a heads up and a week later my boss approaches me and let's me know that he'll need my written resignation ASAP (after previously saying he only needed it at two weeks) because he needs to 'approve' it. I honestly had no idea what to say to that. The whole thing felt like a ridiculous power move.
