I’m an in home health aide, and my boss said it during one of her check-ins with a client of mine. She was speaking with my clients husband about how hard it is to get people to work these days, and since the Fourth of July was coming up, she mentioned holiday pay. And that’s when she said it. Her exact words being “I don’t see why anyone needs time and a half pay, they’re doing the same amount of work as any other day. It just adds to our expenses.” Mind you, most of the caregivers at our company make $8-12 an hour, while also having no benefits whatsoever. It infuriates me that the work we do is absolutely essential, but we get the bare minimum for doing it.
