I work for a store that's somewhat male dominant. Think auto parts store (but not). I have three managers. One store manager and two assistant managers. The store manager is AWESOME. He knows how to treat his employees, and we're super loyal to him. One assistant is great, the other is God awful useless piece of shit. This post is about him. Let's call him Keith.
Keith is supposed to be our tech guy. He comes from a tech background, but he's a boomer who is now incompetent. For instance, if our credit card machines or registers go down, we're fucked for days until he has to get on the phone to the help desk. Keith is also in charge of scheduling. He isn't terrible, but he's lazy and just imports last weeks schedules, but doesn't account for days people asked off. Fortunately for us, the store manager goes in to fix what Keith fucked up. Keith also “forgets” to add PTO so we'll see our checks be short. He stays hidden up in the office all day and rarely comes down to help us if we're short staffed or super busy, which is often. All in all, he's lazy and incompetent. Lately though he's really started aggressively verbally attacking us ladies who work there.
We have, in all, 11 women working here. He's been nasty to 9 of the 11. The 2 women he's nice to? The store manager's wife, and the wife of the other assistant. He's yelling at us in front of customers, embarrassing and humiliating us. We have an especially strong female team member who gets compliments from customers every single day. People regularly call the store asking for her specifically because she's helped them in the past. She's an absolute star employee. He yelled at her in front of customers. She shared with me that she cried all the way home from work that day. She's 60. No, he doesn't treat men like that, although he did run off another strong team member who is male and black. Hardworking man. Tried to get his son on with us, but Keith didn't want to hire him. We're shorthanded as fuck, Keith hired a meth head, but not the high-school aged son of a man with incredible work ethic. So, I guess if you're a white male, you're OK in his book. Sad thing is, we have over 30 employees, and every single one of us is white. No diversity whatsoever.
He's turned our once fantastic work environment into a toxic work environment. One of us brought this to the attention of our store manager, but sadly, his response was if you have a problem with someone, take it up with them. I think this is a terrible solution seeing the balance of power is in Keith's favor. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
