My boss told me I could have half an hour to say goodbye to my dog that was being put down

This happened last summer, but I still often think about it and wonder if I should talk to hr. I work as a mechanic and one day my mom called me to tell me that our 15 year old dog was acting very lethargic and wouldn't stand up, and they thought she'd need to be put down. I broke down sobbing, because I'd been there right when we picked that puppy up 15 years prior, and she'd been the best dog over the course of her life. I grew up with that dog, and I was devastated. I went into my bosses office, crying, and let him know I needed to go to be there, but he told me I could only go if it was something that would only take half an hour. I kind of stared at him but he was being serious so I walked back out into the shop and told my boyfriend, who also works there, and he was just as shocked.
I left for that half an hour and thank God my dog actually didn't get put down that day, she perked up at the vet and they told us she'd be okay and she actually lived almost to 16, but I know if she had been euthanized that day and I had to go back to work – I would've been a crying mess and gotten nothing done. Still pisses me off when I think about it.
