My boss wants me to work on weekends which is actually understandable because I am working in a small startup and startups dont get the luxury to relax
But my problem is with HOW my boss asks us to work on weekends
Let me give you the context:
-
I work with the web team in the company and there are 3 members in the team including me
-
There also exists an android team which consists of 3 members, one of which is a very senior developer and also has ESOPs in the company (none of the other employees have ESOPs)
-
Last week the android team had to work a lot on weekends due to some unfinished tasks during weekdays, this made our boss very happy
-
During the start of this week our boss praised th android team in the meeting and told us to learn from them since they are dedicated (they are only dedicated because the senior developer MADE them work on weekends because HE has ESOPs in the company)
-
Now coming to the web team. This week we only had 3 days working (instead of the normal 5 due to some national holidays in my country)
-
So we only had 3 days to finish our tasks of this week instead of the normal 5, and the tasks and their timelins were decided by our boss (even tho he says that employees are the ones who get to decide what tasks they will do and in what time they will be done)
-
Now the boss just messaged the web team to complete the tasks by monday (even tho we are on a holiday) because we couldnt complete the timeline that he decided for us
I feel like shit, I am trying to change jobs but I have been facing rejections from everywhere and my current boss is starting to piss me off
The thing that pisses me off is that our bosses says “We don't promote weekend culture in this company BUT if you are unable to complete the tasks decided by YOU then you need to put in weekends”
Now this statement is such a big lie because we never decide our tasks and timelines, HE does and since he only gives us a week to complete a task that is nearly impossible to do in the first place, we will always have to work on weekends, ughhhhh so tires
