So I asked my boss for a raise this week. I didn't mention that I was applying for other jobs offering 60k a year but I asked him for that amount. He explained to me that he's already paying me far more then what I take home. He explained with taxes the benefits and contributions to my rrsp even tho I only take home 1100 every 2 weeks the company is paying much more then that to have me be there. I explained to him that 1100 wasn't enough to live off and I asked him how much money I make the company. He was completely taken aback by me asking that question and cited the usual things about them having to pay rent and electricity and the risk so it wasn't as simple as me making them money.
What really annoyed me was he then down played my work load. He ran the figures if I was managing a 1.5 million dollar book which I was hired to do. However after 2 weeks he bumped me up to 2.5 million dollar book with no pay increase and when I started to get migranes due to the stress and asked for help he said there was nothing he could do and suggested staying late for no pay.
Sorry I keep getting off topic. I asked him how much money I made the company and compared that to how much I was being paid and he asked me where I got this kind of idea from, that I should be paid a portion of my earnings and that this was a normal thing to ask.
The guy is very educated and I was just surprised all that time in university but he never learned about Marxism, correct me if I'm wrong.
Either way I'm not getting my raise but he did offer to allow me opertunitys to expand if I took extra initiative and took a work related course while I wasn't at work. I dunno. I'm too tired to argue with people and its just easier to apply for jobs elsewhere that will pay me a liveable wage then try to explain this to my boss.
