My boss would rather throw leftover sushi away than give it to the staff after a shift

I work as a delivery driver for a sushi company and whoever asked for leftover sushi after the shift would usually get a decent sized box (if there were leftovers). Recently, the boss said that we are no longer allowed to get sushi and that it should be thrown away. I’ve seen 50+ pieces of leftover sushi from the shift being thrown in the bin and I just can’t understand it.
