My colleague was terminated this morning because she “wasn’t getting along with the assistant.”

My colleague just texted me and told me this happened. The assistant who was hired was openly hostile to her and didn’t like being called out for her mistakes. She aligned herself with management and has made herself appear like a victim. Is it even legal to fire someone for the reason they stated?
