Using a throwaway account just in case.
I work in the corporate office of a large company with primary operations in North America.
Over the past few weeks, the higher-ups have been asking for “volunteers” from corporate to help at the warehouse, doing inventory and shipments. As you can guess, this is entirely unpaid “but it's a great way to help our [company name] family” and “pizza lunches”!!! This includes weekend shifts, which are usually OT, but will be expected to be done for free.
Now, I'm not turning my nose up to these jobs. I come from a blue collar background and my husband is a union construction worker. But the thought of a bunch of corporate blow-hards rolling into the disty center for a good PR spot with no clue what the fuck they're doing (while probably making a few classist comments) makes me want to barf.
Also, my husband says he definitely thinks he could take this to the union and it would be a pretty big deal. They're asking totally inexperienced people to work in a dangerous environment for free… seems like a bad/cringe idea, but is it bad enough to report it to somebody?
