My David and Goliath moment. Well Maybe…

I have been with my employer for 10+ years. I rarely call out. I’m usually the first in and the last out. I’m considered the low man on the totem pole. Over the years the company has downsized and I’m currently doing the work of about 4 people. I have no work/life balance with this job although most of the higher ups do. I’m doing the work the leaders should be doing while they enjoy a nice 9-5 schedule, I’m working 12-16 hour days 6 days a week.

Today I was told that I would be given another job to do on top of what I’m already doing. I told my supervisor my concerns and they agreed.
This mandate was coming from our CEO.

Fast forward a few hours and my supervisor comes in to tell me that the CEO said I have to take on the role, and I don’t have any say in the matter.

I’m not one to speak up for myself, but today something changed and I let my supervisor know yes I do have a choice. I could leave and not return. This is something I have never said before.

My boss then told the CEO who called my bluff. I started clearing out my office and packing up. When the supervisor saw me doing this they notified the CEO that I was going to be true to my word and the CEO decided to not assign me the additional job.

I now feel I will be retaliated against in the coming weeks because I’ve seen it before.

Should I stay and stand my ground or cut my losses?
