My employer is appealing my unemployment benefits

I have already been paid, previous employer appealing decision. They are claiming willful misconduct saying I refused to do a task. No prior write ups, employer even states in their claim questionnaire that I was a model employee and never refused work up to this incident. I feel I was baited into saying I wouldn’t do this task so they could retaliate against me because I gave a notice. When I thought I would discuss with them why I was refusing the task via email (due to quality control and danger of task) they immediately brought me to a meeting and fired me when I walked in the building. Do I need to be represented by an attorney for this? Or is this pretty straightforward. Opposing party is being represented by a company to my knowledge.
