My employer wants me to work over 8 hours some days, without paying overtime.

I am in BC. My employer wants to schedule me for back to back shifts in different departments, which can sometimes mean 10+ hour days. I am told that because I'm working two shifts in different departments, the extended hours do not qualify for overtime. Can anyone confirm if this is true or should I start looking for a new job?
