My employers attempt at going green involves discontinuing our paper rotational schedules we receive.
It doesn't sound like a bad thing at first, but when you take into account our 10 hour shifts that involve rotating to one of 8 stations each hour, on top of relieving 2 to 3 coworkers every few hours for breaks, our paper schedules are an absolute necessity. (We have around 15 coworkers).
The way we fill our schedules out, we use three different highlighter pens.
Yellow is used for which station you'll be at for that specific hour.
Pink is used for breaks, along with using a pen to mark sequencial numbers ranging from 1-3 on who gets a break first .
Blue is our roving hours.
By eliminating this paper schedule makes it difficult to keep track of where you are supposed to be at any given hour.
I brought up my concerns with my supervisor, because they suggested we take a picture of the schedule. I said that we will get into trouble when we take our phones out to consult the schedule each and every hour. The supervisors then suggested to… write the schedule down. Doesn't that defeat the fuckin purpose of “going green”?
I swear to God, I wish I was making this up.
