Let's call them Lolzlie's.
Earlier this year, I began working as an assistant store manager for pretty much the Wal-Mart of pool supply's. At first it was awesome because it was still cold and we were slow most of the time. My manager explained he needed gall bladder surgery and wpuld have to be out for about a week at some point. Fast forward to May and he's about to be out for the surgery and asked a manager from another store to help cover my days off for the week. Cool, no biggie, I just have to work one 50 hour week (our hours had just expanded from 10-6 to 9-7 and I was supposed to have two days off a week).
Then on that Friday, he says he'll have to be out for the month, so I call around to other stores to find my own coverage since my manager and district manager were unable. I found coverage for one of the days the next week but got lots of “no promises” for any other time.
After one week of 6 10 hour days and 2 more weeks of 7/10's running the whole store during the busiest part of the year with no store phone (ours had broken before my manager had gone, but our IT department deserves it's own post entirely), he finally came back to tell me how much it sucked.
Then I got covid. I was out for a week and they made me use up all of the vacation time I was planning to use when my manager got back or else I'd go a week with no pay. When I got back, he made me feel guilty about how he had to cover for me as if the previous month had never happened.
ALL OF THIS WAS FOR $15/HR
