For context: where I live it's legal to work in a greenhouse from your 13th and I was 14 at the time
My mom wanted me to have a job for a long time for money and experience and I wanted that too.
Only options were working in a greenhouse or with a company that has been exposed with underpaying it's underage employees.
When I started I was quite excited, although I needed to start with moving plants (which I absolutely despise now) I told my boss that I wasn't cut out for moving those heavy plants and he said he'd do something about it (but he didn't even after he saw in person I'm not really capable of doing it as I'm quite weak. Now, I understand he might have wanted to strengthen me but he wanted to reach a quota so it seems unlikely)
Sometimes I got placed at something different but was immediately removed next week because I was “too slow” (mind you I wasn't even trained so how they expected me to reach the quota first time I did that I have no idea)
Plus, my phobia of slugs didn't help because they're huge there.
Ok so I got a few warnings (not important) and then… my last week there
I was absolutely done with the business but I kept working there because they had quite a good salary
I was placed at… you guessed it… moving plants
It was searing hot and I was tired because I hadn't slept well
I needed to move 25+ trays of 4 plants in 5 minutes over a distance of 75+ meters with obstacles in the way
(Granted, the supervisor was a horrid b and everyone disliked her, even other supervisors)
Basically I was sent home because I couldn't do what i previously described
The next morning I got the following message from my former boss (this is translated)
“Hi [name], I heard you didn't work that good again last saturday. I think it's better if we don't see each other again. I don't see any progress in the speed you work at, and at this time I expect more from you.”
THIS SOUNDS LIKE A BREAK-UP MESSAGE
I'm still livid about it because this is so unprofessional
A month or so later I got another job at a greenhouse because my mom really wanted me to (even though i told her a greenhouse isn't for me) and at my second job they actually told me in person that I just wasn't cut out for working there
I have a job application tomorrow at a local restaurant (I love cooking so I hope it goes better, my primary reason for the application is that they needed a burger man)
I just wanted to share this with you because I didn't communicate boundaries enough and I ended up getting fired over something that's impossible for anyone to do
I did want to leave that shitshow for a while but that's beside the point
Tl:Dr just read the damn thing
