I have a friend that I see you about everyday and she still works in restaurants. She works at a restaurant that is only open for breakfast and lunch. And they do this thing where they will straight up close their business for like a week or two and then say something like ” okay guys be sure to save up some money”
And shut the restaurant down for like a week or two. I think the longest they have shut it down I think it was three weeks? Don't quote me on that though.
My friend does all right but I don't feel that she should be having to prepare herself for this closing by saving up money just because the owners of the restaurant want to have a break. She works full-time, also does shifts as a manager like once to twice a week.
I bring this up because I saw her today and she told me after Mother's Day that they are shutting down for another two weeks.
I have advised her to tell her employers that they need to be reimbursing her for this time that she's not working and if they're not willing to do that that she needs to go to the unemployment department and file a claim and get money for this work that she's missing because it's no fault of her own.
The idea of this asking her employers to cover her while they shut the restaurant makes her very nervous and then I think the idea of going to the unemployment office makes her even more nervous because she's afraid they will retaliate somehow.
I am posting this here because I want her to see that it's going to be okay with whatever decision she makes. But I want her to do something about it and I really feel that she needs more support than me just telling her.
Can you help a brother out here and tell her why it would be okay for her to do this and why she should do this?
Her managers have also had her pets it for like a week and giving her $100 which is ridiculous in its own right but I'm just trying to show her that she is being taken advantage of and it's like she knows it but she's scared to death to do anything about it because she doesn't like the job because she makes really good money when they're open.
So I thought I would bring it here. If this threat actually gets going I will also invite her to the thread and show her that it's going to be okay. She's on Reddit ….let's see if she notices first.
summary: I have a good friend that works for a restaurant that will shut down for weeks at a time. They do not compensate her for this time. I told her that they should be and if they're not willing to she should go to unemployment and file a claim to get at least some of that time she's missing back to her.
I think she's nervous about doing this and need more than just my support
