For my privacy, I'm keeping this vague and no screenshots. I work for a company in the US healthcare industry. We just received a company wide email notifying us that in a few weeks, employees who get COVID will no longer have paid leave and instead have to use other sick time or their PTO. No word on what to do if those options are used up. They made this decision after “careful consideration” of “industry standards.”
They signed off the email by saying they hoped we had a good labor day.
I am very privileged, can work remotely, and have really chill and accommodating managers. As a salaried employee, I also have “unlimited” time off (subject to manager's approval). But I feel horrible for the in-person hourly employees, who make up a substantial base and are performing the direct labor that makes the company money.
I want to help unionize, but I don't know where to begin since my position isn't affected by a lot of these kinds of policies and I don't work directly with those who are. I essentially work for a sub-company and our team has no relationship with the larger workforce. I don't even know of anyone else who would be interested or how to find that out.
