we had a situation at this company where they decided to go fully 24/7 so they needed to manage 3 shifts every day
now in between covid and whatever they didnt have enough coverage so some people were asked to do 12-24 hr shifts
so the company overreacted and hired too many people and 4 x 8hr days werent unheard of
now with costs of living going up some people have asked for more shifts
well what has happened is that if someone asks for another shift then someone has to lose out on a shift
so someone on 4 days of work might be asked to go to 3 days at 8 hrs
obviously 24hrs vs 32hrs a week is a fairly large loss of income
further they sort of *asked” via sms as in they said, are you ok with this? I didnt respond via the sms as I wanted to discuss this in person, my questions were kind of rebuffed to my face when i went back to work
When the employee declined they just said “this is your new shift”
so what is one to make of this? Is this constructive dismissal?
The whole thing makes the workplace uncomfortable.
I do have sympathy for people needing more work but if I was in their shoes I cant honestly go ahead and grab someone elses shift and sleep ok with that?
Further I question the mentality of bosses who are ok with this?
Just about everyone in this section bar a handful were here pre covid.
