I need advice!!
I’ve been going back to school and my job has been super supportive of it up until recently. I communicated with my boss back in April about my Fall schedule. There’s 1 class in particular that is a year long class, meaning I HAVE to take it in the Fall and Spring this year. And the lab that goes along with it. I was very clear about this when taking to my boss about it.
Now that school has started, my schedule is an issue…
The 1st week of school, they asked my to change my lab time to later in the day. It was stressful and I had to explain to my professors the situation but thankfully they said I could move to a different class.
The 2nd week of school, this past Thursday, my managers pulled me aside and told me that my later scheduled lab time still wasn’t going to work for them so they gave me 2 options – I can either keep going to school and move to a part time employee (this would result in a 25% pay decrease) OR I can quit school and keep working full time. And they’re giving me until Wednesday to give them an answer. 🫠
They told me I’m an asset to the company and they really want to see me grow with them.
I wanted to see what both sides of this looks like for me…
I called the school to see if I would owe anything if I dropped out of school right now. They said yes, you would only get a 50% refund on your tuition. So I’d still have to pay them $5500. That’s $5500 out of my pocket!!!
But, if I stay in school to go part time at work, I won’t have enough income to support my family! And I only have until Wednesday to give them an answer.
Is this fair?? Can they legally do this??
It feels like they’re making it so I have no option but to keep working for them. Please help me figure out what to do
I’ve got a whole lot of receipts too so I was planning to compile everything into a folder and present it to them on Wednesday. Is this a good idea?
