I’m on a casual/contractor contract. My manager signed me up for 65-72 hours per week, 12 hours a day shifts. He wanted me to do even more shifts (84 hours a week) and pressured me to work even though I already said no. I’ve been working 6-7 days a week for a few months now.
I bent over backwards to accommodate for his last minute changes to the schedule, cancellations and call ins. I get paid a much lower hourly rate than someone who has the same level of experience as me.
Everytime we crossover for shifts he rudely tells me goodbye and that he doesn’t want to know anything about me. And he loves to insult me, degrade me.
Yesterday I woke up with bad neck pain from working out and sleeping with a bad posture. I called in sick but he couldn’t find anyone to cover for me. I still turned up to work as I serve regular patients (I work in healthcare) but after I did that I told him firmly I need to go home. I called my family doctor who sent me a medical certificate to deem me unfit for work for 5 days. I showed the manager my medical certificate. Despite this, he wasn’t being helpful and still expected me to work, so I contacted the manager above him, she came to relieve me within 4 hours.
Anyway my manager has now blocked me. I called the work number, he answered the phone but as soon as he realised it was me he told me he was not available and passed the phone to someone else. What should I do?
