At work yesterday my manager called me into her little service room to chat. Something she often does to all of us to touch base, not necessarily a bad thing.
She were talking and she slips in that if I'm going to dress casual, I really should be wearing more makeup. I look “too casual”
I am pissed. I dont wear makeup, and never have at work. That day in particular I had spent extra time styling my hair, and was wearing a nice pair of Jean's, with nice boots but with just a t shirt. The owner at work even complimented my outfit earlier that day, so being confronted about my appearance really shocked me.
I could understand if we had some sort of strict dress code but, Everyone else at work was dresses the same. Jean's, a few of them ripped, and t shirts. A lot of my coworkers come wearing ratty Stained shoes that are falling apart, and it's totally acceptable. Some often look more casual than I did. And this is the usual every day. Everyone always wears jeans and t shirts, And I'm mad that not wearing makeup sets me apart. I find it extremely insulting and frustrating because I'm not about to start being someone I'm not.
