I work for a very large car manufacturer and overtime is a regular thing, though usually it’s just 15-30 minutes here and there, not a huge deal for me.
recently the company increased the total build by a lot which means more work needs to be done and there just isn’t enough of us to get it all finished on time so we’re all having to work an extra two hours every. single. day.
after a month of being worked to the bone (11 hour shifts plus saturdays) we spoke up and told them we’re miserable and we need more help, they said no.
they said we need to cost the company more in overtime than the cost of hiring more people for anything like that to happen. I’m livid. they’re openly admitting to taking advantage and they don’t care.
