I’ve been working at this place (large amusement park, big company, several parks across the country, none in Florida) for about 5 months. I am disabled and my service dog comes to work with me, and have previously had some issues with them accommodating my disability, despite being told when I was hired that it wouldn’t be a problem to accommodate me. It hadn’t been a problem up until a month or so ago, when all the students who work there went back to school. Recently, I’ve upset some managers for reminding them I can’t work outdoors, because they kept going against my accommodations and putting me at outdoor placements. I bring this up, because I feel as if I’m being targeted because they are irritated about having to accommodate my disability, and I have had to remind them for my last 5 or so shifts that I can’t work outside. I guess me being disabled is a real inconvenience for them.
So, yesterday, I was at work, and I suppose my nipples were visible through my work shirt. I did not notice this myself. My two managers pulled me into an open doorway in front of my coworkers to inform me that a customer had complained that my nipples were visible, and that I needed to wear “an appropriate bra” to work. I was wearing a bra, but I was too upset to tell them this, and just said okay. They told me it was a uniform violation and if they were visible again, I’d get written up.
I went into the bathroom afterwards, crying because I was embarrassed, and immediately took a photo of the top half of my uniform. My nipples were not visible at that time. I told a male coworker, who pointed out that his nipples were almost always visible through the tight work shirt, and no one’s ever said anything to him about it.
Is this sexual harassment? My family thinks they might be targeting me because of my disability, and thinks that they’re trying to get me to quit, due to the other recent interactions I’ve had with them.
