I’m currently working for one of Google’s subsidiaries, which is an Operations Center here in the Philippines. Since we are being forced to RTO 5days/week starting in September, I decided to look for a remote job. I recently got an offer for full-time remote work. I signed the contract and my start date is the 3rd week of July. I don’t wanna risk losing this new job because they offered me triple what I’m currently being paid.
Last December, my current company released an updated contract stating that our notice period will be changed from 1 month to 2 months. If you did not sign, then your notice period will remain the same, but if you signed, then the update will be applied (2mos notice instead of 1). Those who signed, like me, were paid an additional ₱10K [$200] bonus. At that time, I wasn’t thinking of leaving the company yet, so I signed.
I already spoke with my manager and his boss to request if it’s possible to just offset the bonus from my final pay, but they informed me that according to HR, “they don’t care about the money” and that what they need is for me to render 2 months because after all, they’re part of the largest search engine on the planet. Also, our VLs are accrued and I only have 3.75 days left as of this writing. They also told me that if I only render 1 month, then they will tag me as “Non-regrettable attrition” which might or will affect my application directly to Google LLC in the future, so I’m really worried. ️
