Antiwork

My mom has cancer, I was promised being able to work fully remote, less than a week has gone by and they’re pushing me to come back already.

The title pretty much sums it up but I am just so irritated I’m getting a headache. My mom had cancer when I was in highschool, and we recently found out that it may have come back. I told my job that, while we are running tests and if my mom ends up receiving treatments, I do not feel comfortable coming into the workplace because of how lax they are regarding Covid (I’ve gotten Covid 2 times just this year from the office – people come in to work and are maskless even when someone in their household is Covid + ). They immediately said they understood my situation, I can work remote for the foreseeable future, and to let them know once I have a timeline established of when everything will be taken care of with my mom and I can return to office. This conversation happened on Friday, august 12th. Today is the 18th and I’m already being pushed and pressured and told that I must come into the office at least 2x a week for meetings. Meetings that, mind you, can easily be done over zoom, and ARE done over zoom for a few of our remote employees that live in different states. I was told that “Covid is over” and that “they need me in the office because my job isn’t a remote job”. First of all, if it’s over, half of your staff wouldn’t have been out sick with Covid for the last MONTH (myself included). Second of all, all I do is email vendors and fill out excels, which are easily done from home. Weekly meetings do occur, but like I said before, they can and have been done via zoom. Sorry but I’m not going to risk my mom’s health/life just so you don’t have to go through the inconvenience of calling me rather than being able to walk over to my cubicle.

So fucking mad right now.
