My mother who works as a live in Supertendant at an condominium complex was called into an office and given a separation agreement. She was to receive $15,000 payment which is 6 months salary and to leave by March 31st
She was given 21 days to sign the contract and not to disclose anything.
Now the background, my mother gets the apt she lives for free as part of her job. Before it became my mothers job it was originally my dad’s job. My dad worked 30 years in the role as Superintendent before having a heart attack and retiring in 2013. My mother then inherited his job and role as a continuing employment. She received a major pay cut from my father due to what they labeled “inexperienced”
My mother has worked as an employee on the complex for 30 years before taking the role of Superintendent. In her work with the complex she would manage the condominium’s pool and do tasks such as snow removal and garbage clean up. Taking the role of Supertendant was just a natural progression in terms of working there.
It’s important to note she is being let go not do to her employment satisfaction but because the condominium association cannot afford her in the upcoming year budget
To make matter worse my father passed away last July due to complications from diabetes. Now my mom lost her husband of 40 years and is going to lose her home and job as well.
My mother is 57 with only a high school degree and has RA so she has severe flair ups. 30 days to leave and only 15,000 in my city is impossible to live with inflation and rental prices.
Reaching out to lawyers and most are just $450 an hour to due consultation. My mother doesn’t have that money and unfortunately nor do I.
I am at loss for words and to be honest here on Reddit is my last hope to help.
Thank you all for reading this.
