For a bit of backstory, we’ve been changing bosses at my current employer for the past month, and the new one we got in is super nice. However, I’ve noticed something very alarming. She’s been lying about a lot of things. Small things, sure, but it’s still putting me on edge. (Ex.: telling businesses that try to contact us that we have room for appointments to speak with the owner when we’re not interested in their services) And maybe I expect too much out of people, so it could just be me. But today, we were very slow at work with 4 people working, and nothing to do. So, as we usually do when it’s slow with too many employees, we send people home. I volunteered to leave early, and said that it’d be fine since the owner sends people home when it’s slow anyhow. She said that if anyone asks, I left due to an emergency (and gave a very specific random scenario). I just disregarded it and gathered my books and bag. As I went to double check with the business owner before I left, I found her talking to the new boss and said “hey, is it okay if I go early since we’re slow today?” And my new boss cut in and said “yeah, I let her know that (emergency situation) requires you to go early today, so you can clock out”. I’m a horrible liar, and the business owner likes to ask questions. Should I tell her the truth if she asks about it? And am I overreacting?
