My new office has a dress code they strictly enforce, shit like this is why no one wants to go back to the office.

We don't have outside visitors right now because of covid, so who is this even for? I understand a suggested dress like “business casual” or whatever but we're all adults, can't we just be trusted to read the room? Hell, I even understand why a company might step in in extreme situations. But to say “no bare shoulders” when it's incredibly hot in there. Sure it's technically a gender neutral rule but come on. And I've heard from others that prior to covid the dress code was strictly enforced and sometimes even made up (including a story of one female employee being sent home for wearing something “too sparkly”??) My direct boss is great, and I only really deal with them, and the pay is better than I've had and benefits okay, it's in my chosen field, I felt pretty lucky to be here. But something about this just keeps…

My direct boss is great, and I only really deal with them, and the pay is better than I've had and benefits okay, it's in my chosen field, I felt pretty lucky to be here. But something about this just keeps rubbing me the wrong way. Everything about going back to the office is reminding me how fucked up office culture is. And yet, I do enjoy working with people in person! It's the bullshit culture around offices that I can't stand.
