In my department, it's only 7 of us but each of us are in different rankings. I'm newer, and the lowest paid in the lowest ranking. At the beginning I was assisting some coworkers in a higher ranking and was proving myself real good. I was getting great feedback and was showing that I could handle multitasking.
After a few months, I started getting weird vibes from coworkers (being ostracized, purposely ignored, one-word replies, etc) so I then realized “fuck this, i don't even get paid as much as them so I'm not helping anymore”. Cue my boss noticing and calling me into her office.
Told me that my productivity is lower and I need to work harder/show initiative so others can notice and I can get a good reputation that way. I told her that I didn't feel comfortable going above and beyond because I still get paid the same. She said it's not about the pay, it's about workmanship. I politely disagreed, especially in today's economy.
Now she's been standoffish to me and is also kind of giving me the cold shoulder.
I understand Gen X comes from a different time in life but it's absolutely no good reason to work harder and faster if you're not given a promotion or raise. Am I right or wrong? They know what I'm capable of doing on the job so I think it's unfair to judge simply because I'm not willing to do the extras.
