I have painstakingly jumped through hoops in an interview process over the last week. I know a lot of companies do this, but I don't necessarily understand the full process of asking irrelevant questions about my lifestyle that don't correlate with the type of work I do. Or making me do an enneagram test which was part of the process as well. Anyways, after days of writing full essays about myself and why I “deserve” this job, I finally scored an interview.
Without any prior communication about how they do their interviews, I showed up for my scheduled time, only to wait over an hour to finally be called in. When they called me in, they also called in two other people who were scheduled to interview as well. Surprise group interview! Everyone in the room was now a little uncomfortable as we now all felt as if we were competing directly for the one position they had opened.
The real problem I had with all this process was the look of the employees already there, and the other interview candidates…..all very attractive young females. I did my best, and answered all their questions honestly, with over 20 years of experience in my field to back it up, but I knew I didn't have the job, because the interviewer was too busy hitting on the other two girls in the room. I got a letter this morning saying that they have decided to go with a more “experienced” candidate. I have more experience than the age of the other two girls in that room combined……I guess I didn't have the specific qualifications he was looking for.
