My remote company paid to fly, feed, and house my coworkers for a company retreat this week and I was rewarded with more work.

I didn't go for a couple of medical reasons. But while everyone is being paid to have fun, I was asked to pick up the slack. They made it seem like it would be responding to an email here and there while everyone was out and it's turning into a full workload. I don't think I ever felt so disappointed and exploited all at the same time.
