For my main job, I work for myself. I'm fine with keeping my own hours, steady business etc etc. I'm trying not to burn out, so I do cap my hours. Also, there's only specific days and time of days that I can work, which frees up some of my time.
Lately, I've wanted to save up to move and really need to buy a new car, so I thought getting a second job would allow me to put some money into my savings quickly (especially since the car I want keeps increasing in price every 6 mo).
I interviewed for a waiter position and got the job. Told them I only wanted to fill in for no show employees or do max 20 hrs, preferably the former. Kept getting scheduled 40 hours a week, making around 1k for 80 hours – wtf???
What I think is happening is they are scheduling me really good shifts and really bad shifts. So when I make a lot of money on the good shifts, I pay it back on the bad shifts when I don't get tipped (in taxes and tip out). It sucks because I don't want to screw over my coworkers, but it's really not worth it for me to be working those slow shifts, which I am essentially working for free and paying support staff out of my own money – it's just not a good use of my time. I need to be spending at least some of that time working on my business. Opinions or advice?
