My younger sister told me something yesterday that I still can't wrap my head around. She worked nearly every day at a local Sephora/Kohls. She and her co-workers basically set up the entire store (it was a new addition to Kohls) from 5AM to 2PM. Now that the store's up and running, they only worked her for two days.
She told me that their “policy” was only giving people more hours if they sold store credit to customers. Not offer, but actually sell it. Usually they say if you apply, you'll get something like 20% off your purchase even if you're not approved, but they can't even say that! The discount doesn't actually apply to Sephora merch, only the stuff outside of the Sephora.
What kind of bull is that? So even if you get a job working for crap pay, you still have to do something for them so that your paycheck will be more than $100? I get if the discount applied to everything, but the whole point of someone trying to get that is to get a discount on expensive makeup and skincare.
I mean, she's working because she wants a little extra cash in her pocket, but one co-worker she knows has a child and worked only one day out of the week because she didn't sell any credit.
But we're in a worker shortage right? No one wants to work, right? /s
