Hi everyone! there was a lifeguard post the other day and it got me the motivation to finally call out my old workplace, The Y goddamn MCA. im just gonna list things from the past 8 months that i dealt with and see what everyone thinks.
Got yelled at for not having a guard shirt. (First day, i thought we'd get one for free.)
Had to be the camp nurse and social worker (with 0 background in it)
Stopped a kid attacking a counselor with scissors and got yelled at over it
Was part time but making me work 32 hours because no one came in
Had to be “the boss” one day because my boss took a last second trip and told me the day before. Which resulted in me opening at 6 Am after working 11-8 the day prior.
HE ALSO CLOCKED IN FOR THE TRIP! So he was paid 19 HOURS overtime for doing nothing.
WHILE….
I WASNT PAID TIME AND A HALF AT ALL. Not once did i receive time and a half for working sundays and holidays.
Saving a 3 year old from jumping in the deep end, then getting yelled at for “improper technique”
Was forced to swim during random shifts because “You look tired” or because “In-service training”
Missed out on ATLEAST 5 breaks because no one, including my boss, showed up.
Was VERY weird around the female lifeguards. He'd complain about them wearing clothes above they're suits and make very inappropriate comments.
The last notable thing thing i can think of off the top of my head (Which between the time and a half and this was the main reason i quit) was that we were forced to wear masks while guarding (Vaccinated or not) Which isnt very good for you if your guarding in a 90 degree pool for 9 hours. I started to get badly sick and no one cared.
Sorry if this isnt mean here, but i needed to call out the Y for being a awful company and not treating they're employees well. I could go on with other things my workmates told me about but its not my stuff to tell.
