I’m starting my first year of teaching in a large public school district in the Midwest next week. However, chances are the teachers’ union is going to be striking (we vote officially on Sunday). There’s lots of valid reasons for this (better pay, not enough teachers, better facilities, more resources, etc) so I’m thrilled to be taking part. Buuuuut I’m also terrified. I’ve been involved in plenty of activism and civil disobedience before, but never a straight up strike of more than 4,000 people. Does anyone (especially teachers!) have any experience with this? What should I expect? What should I look out for?
