So I work in Food Retail. Deli, bakery, Seafood meat are starting at $15 an hour. Everyone else is now at $14.15 for cashiers stock, Frozen, Produce, dude who sits on his ass outside who should be doing carts etc. Everyone who was recently hired or hired prior who are under these rates in these departments essentially “got a raise”.
Anyway it doesn't seem like anything is happening for people like my self or department managers who are also Union. Everyone in my Store is union with the $15 people a different Union. Any who I've been there 17 yrs and now some kid who sits on his ass on his phone makes .5O cents less then me? My Shop steward called the union who is looking to see if anything can be done to raise us. I'm not fighting for just me but most of my department managers have gone without raises for yrs now. Some non management make more or just as much as some of the management does so they should get a bump themselves. I've been here 17 yrss and deserve a little more then what I make.
I live in PA. I've already started looking for a new job. Looked at a family owned Meet/deli small grocery store place buddy works at. My Buddy said I was better off staying where I was at. I should mention I'm high functioning autistic and honestly most cases you wouldn't notice I was. Change is hard for me so finding a new job is a big step. I also don't have a license as work school etc all was in public transit distance or walking. My issues is finding something like pays more then $15 an hour with the benefits I currently get. I also need the health right now as I'm dealing with an elbow/arm issue that was from wear and tear of cashiering for yrs. I live in PA btw. I'd like to get out of retail if I can. Do something with sports such as writing or something, wrestling is another big topic of mine or something with history. I live in the suburbs of Philly and easy to get to plus live near valley forge so a few options here for that as well.
Most think I have the right idea and some of my coworkers have said if they weren't ready to retire soon they'd be quitting and looking for new jobs. Writing seems to be on the wall. My Store boss is 73 and past retirement and we really need new blood in there.
TLDRV: My Store is bumping people's pay who were just hired to almost or more then me don't think I'm getting a bump besides what's due to to me Contractually already. Thinking of searching for a new job.
