I work(ed) with livestock on the farm where I also happen to rent my house. I was renting through an agency before I ended up with the job.
During the last batch of animals, I noticed that they were going out but no new ones were coming in. I then found out through the guy who delivers the feed that they are planning to close the farm.
I asked my boss, 'P', and be refused to tell me.
I asked his boss 'S' and he refused to tell me.
I asked the training farm manager, he didn't know but advised me to ask a specific person, E.
I received a very angry call from S (bosses boss) saying I need to stop asking, and I never heard anything from E.
The last livestock left and I was literally getting 1 hour work per week in the end, when just the month prior I was getting upwards to 20 days in a row.
Finally S called and said I was being laid off, but the way he described it he made it sound like I was being made redundant. He said I will be receiving some sort of pay, but he didn't really specify anything. I requested it in writing and he said it would come but it never did.
I talked with my Union, it's a general labour union which I dont think my company realized I was a member of, and he advised me to request getting it in writing. I wrote a short letter to my HR requesting clarification on if I was made redundant or laid off, and CCed my Union rep.
I never got any sort of letter.
Talked with my Union rep and we decided to wait to see what pay appears in my account tomorrow and if it is a decent pay put, I might be better off just leaving it.
But today, I was just informed by a third party that the site manager has been talking about re-opening the site and specifically said 'they will be advertising for jobs' soon
MY FUCKING JOB.
In all this I haven't seen my boss, P, in over four weeks, not even a goodbye or thanks for your work.
I will be on the phone with my rep tomorrow regardless of what is in my pay. I am so mad I am shaking right now.
